Florence and  its surroundings

Thanks to its central location, The Florence Hills Luxury Resort is the ideal starting point to discover the many beauties of Tuscany. Just 22 km from Florence, the Tuscan main city is easily accessible by car (30 minutes) or by train from the nearest train station of Pontassieve (that is at 12 min in driving distance).
In less than an hour you can visit the medieval city of Arezzo, interesting destination for its cultural and culinary attractions. In about an hour of driving you can reach and visit the beauties of Siena, relax in the charming Piazza del Campo and taste the delicious local products.
You can also choose to discover the wonderful landscapes of Casentino, reachable in less than an hour of driving, and immerge in the National Park of Casentino Forests.

Why not leave for the Chianti area?

The Florence Hills Luxury Resort is just half an hour from the famous Chianti hills, a land that offers its name to the famous and delicious red wine “Chianti DOCG”. San Lorenzo Market

Recently renovated, this market has become a jewel of the city of Florence. This ancient building has an incredibly sophisticated and unique architecture, and there everyone will find a myriad of small shops that will delight you with local products. You will rediscover the flavors of the traditional market with the many fresh fruits and vegetables, you can relax in front of a good glass of wine, or enjoy a tasty sandwich generously filled with delicacies typical Florentine. In this town, famous above all for its cheeses and fresh homemade pasta like ravioli of potatoes or ravioli topped with typical sauces, you will enjoy even wonderfil natural landscapes. The famous “Lago di Bilancino”, which during the summer is for swimming and equipped with umbrellas and sunbeds, offers the opportunity to undertake a variety of activities such as fishing, canoeing, sailing and windsurfing. The area also boasts the famous Autodromo del Mugello, from Pelago reachable in less than an hour through a beautiful road surrounded by a wonderful countryside. In the town of Barberino, set in the magnificent location of the Mugello, you can spend the day shopping at the famous “Barberino Outlet Village”, which gathers more than one hundred single-brand boutiques and multi-brand stores .

Gastronomic adventures

The Tuscan town Consuma raises along an ancient road that connected Florence and the Casentino with the Valdarno, precisely at the height of 1,050 meters above sea level. Popular destination for people both from the Casentino and from Florence, everyone will find there a focaccia that melts in your mouth, the best all around Tuscany.
The Castle of Nipozzano
Ancient fortress in defense of Florence since the year one thousand, the Castle of Nipozzano is the most famous and historic property of the Frescobaldi family. Thanks to the perfect balance between altitude, soil and cool and windy microclimate, the different varieties of grapes find the ideal conditions for a perfect growth and they allow to produce wines with a harmonious and strong longevity. The beginning of the wine production is documented in early 1300, in the historic Tenuta di Castiglioni in Val di Pesa, in the south-west of Florence. From the beginning the Frescobaldi wines are known for their quality and typicality, and at the beginning of 1400 the great Renaissance artists such as Donatello and Michelozzo Michelozzi as well as Lorenzo the Magnificent were prominent admirers of that wines. A century later, their wines were served on the tables of the English Court of Henry VIII and the Papal Court.

The area of Pelago and Valdisieve is home to several renowned festivals or themed events throughout the year, set up specifically for promoting local products such as wine, pasta, tortelli, ravioli, game and so on.

Cultural Attractions

The small village of Raggioli, in the nearby of Pelago, is a charming little medieval village nestled in the rock. You will remain surprised by the harmony of the place where time passes with the roar of the river and the breath of the mountain.
There is also the “Museo della Montagna”, located inside the old school of the village and that has 130 original pieces, the result of acquisitions and donations.
Vallombrosa Abbey
Located just 10 km from Pelago in a beautiful forest, it was created and built by the monks over the centuries until it was declared in 1973 ‘Biogenetic Natural Reserve‘. The visit to the monastery is very interesting: around the Abbey, in the forest, there are chapels and tabernacles dating from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The paths that lead to these small religious buildings offer visitors multiple opportunities of relax and meditation.
The medieval town, where is set the nearest railway station, is only 10 minutes from Pelago, and is virtually divided into two parts: in the “high” part of the city there is the medieval town, which boasts picturesque houses, small shops, and other places of interest, such as the Piazza del Comune or the Ponte Mediceo over the River Sieve, from which the town takes its name. The “low” part of the city, however, equally full of shops, restaurants, bars, gardens, and a Parco Fluviale, is the more modern side of Pontassieve. Every Wednesday morning Pontassieve hostes as always its traditional and cozy local outdoor market, where you can buy fresh local products. The town is also a wonderful setting for occasional events, festivals, fairs and medieval festivals, thanks to which you can take a dip in the past!
Important Etruscan city since the fourth century BC, Fiesole is situated on a double hill above the valleys of the rivers’Arno and Mugnone and it is a popular tourist destination for the amazing surrounding landscape and for its historical and cultural richness. Easily accessible through a road that will give you breathtaking scenery, the town of Fiesole houses the ancient remains of the Roman amphitheater, picturesque building that deserves undoubtedly a visit.
Madonna delle Grazie al Sasso Sanctuary
Built around the Sixteenth Century, that Sanctuary takes its name from the rock on which, according to the Scriptures, in 1484 appeared the Virgin Mary. Situated along the Via Francigena, 565 meters above sea level, the it is located in a very suggestive position from which you can admire a rough and breathtaking landscape, in one of the most beautiful areas of the territory of Pontassieve. Once arrived the tourist is immediately attracted by the elegant seventeenth-century loggia that forms a right angle and lays its arches on ten pillars of sandstone. Backpackers and trekkers can reach the mystical sanctuary walking through the marked footpaths starting from the provincial road, through a journey in the countryside and enjoying a unique experience in fully contact with nature.
Verna Sanctuary
The mountain on which stands La Verna, set in a monumental forest of beech and fir trees, is visible from all over the Casentino and the high Val Tiberina and has a unique shape with its top (1,283 m) cut in peak of three parts. On the rock, 1100 meters above sea level, and surrounded by the forest raises the Sanctuary, which in its massive and articulated architecture holds many treasures of spirituality, art, culture and history.
